Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, has made history as the sole Indian to be included in Fortune’s list of the 100 Most Powerful People in Business. Ranked 12th, Ambani joins leaders from 40 different industries, ranging from their 30s to 90s. Alongside him, six Indian-origin individuals also feature on the list. As the richest person in India and Asia, with a net worth of USD 98 billion according to Forbes, Ambani oversees Reliance Industries, India’s most valuable company, with a market cap of Rs 16.96 lakh crore as of November 13.
Reliance Industries has a broad presence across petrochemicals, retail, telecommunications, and entertainment. Ambani is working to secure the future of his business empire by preparing the next generation for leadership roles. His eldest son, Akash Ambani, is the chairman of Reliance Jio, while his younger son, Anant Ambani, is involved in the energy sector. His daughter, Isha Ambani, leads the retail division of the company.
Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, holds the highest ranking among Indian-origin leaders on the list at number 3. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, also earned a spot in the top 10, while Tesla’s Elon Musk claimed the number 1 position.
